I’ve
taken off the corresponding weekend, for the past few seasons - and I think I
might be doing to the same again next year !
As
I suggested this morning, todays cards were uninspiring - and on the back of a
very intense period, I probably should have left them alone.
In
fairness, I did back off - but I still issued 3 tips on the day - and non of
them ever looked particularly likely to collect...
Having
said that, Western Miller managed to trade odds on in-running at Sandown, before
weakening in to third place.
He
ran quite a nice race - but never managed to establish the uncontested lead I
hoped for - and ultimately that probably cost him.
Larry
challenged him jumping the second last - and then scooted away for a comfortable
win.
It was one for the Eye Catchers - but that was relatively slim consolation.
It was one for the Eye Catchers - but that was relatively slim consolation.
Mercy
Mercy Me was the next tip to run - and he simply wasn’t up to the
job.
That
was a shame, because I suspect it wasn’t a particularly strong renewal of the
race.
The
short priced favourite, Rathill, was a big disappointment; which left Elixir de
Nutz to fend off the 2 Paul Nichols runners, on the run in.
Court
Royale was the final tip to run - but again he wasn’t up to the job in
hand.
That
said, I suspect his task was a bit harder - relatively speaking.
Certainly
Monsieur Lecoq won the race in taking fashion – and Court Royale would have
needed to be a fair way ahead of his mark, in order to win.
That
wasn’t the case - and he ended up well beaten.
In
terms of the days, Mentions:
Then the veterans chase at Sandown was a race well swerved !
That
said, with the Venetia trained Houblon Des Obeaux winning, maybe I should have
just gone with the trainer angle (instead of with Le Reve, who finished well
beaten).
That
would have worked quite nicely at Wincanton as well, where Venetia's Calipto was
much too quick for Catamaran de Seuil, in the feature race.
Earlier
on the card, Molineaux took advantage of poor jumping by most of his rivals
(including Caltex); whilst Tedham and Tight Call fought out a finish of the
unexposed runners in the handicap chase - with KK Lexion nowhere in
sight..
All
is all though, it was a pretty dull, by Saturday standards…
TVB.
